Colorado Law Protects Citizens from the Silent Killer

Known as the “silent killer,” carbon monoxide (CO) is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in America. From 2007 through 2008, Colorado fire departments responded to more than 1560 CO incidents. This deadly gas can build up inside your home whenever a fuel-burning appliance malfunctions or is improperly installed. Most Colorado families (83%) use gas, wood, kerosene, coal, or fuel as their major heat source, all of which emit CO. The only safe way to detect carbon monoxide in your home is with a working CO alarm.

Colorado Joins 23 States in Requiring CO Alarms

On July 1, 2009, a new law went into effect to help protect Colorado families from carbon monoxide. Learn more about the New Law and Alarms Permitted, and How to Choose a CO Alarm for your family.

Do you live in Colorado and need a CO alarm?

Kidde has joined with Safe Kids coalitions across Colorado to remind families about the dangers of CO poisoning and the recently enacted CO alarm legislation. To help raise awareness, Kidde donated 1,000 CO alarms to Safe Kids for distribution in homes throughout the state. To kick off the awareness campaign, the first 105 CO alarms from Kidde will be available at the "Hot Times, Kool Cars” event on August 30 in Arvada. The first 105 families to visit the Safe Kids Denver Metro booth will receive a free CO alarm for their home.

The remaining 895 Kidde alarms will be available at select Safe Kids Coalitions in Colorado. For information on how to get a free CO alarm for your family, and to find a Safe Kids coalition near you, visit www.SafeKidsDenverMetro.org
