 Eight hurricanes made landfall in Florida in 2004 and 2005. State poison control centers reported more than 200 cases of carbon monoxide poisonings (CO), and 94 of these exposures occurred within days of the hurricane’s landfall.

 Following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Centers For Disease Control (CDC) reported more than 100 CO poisonings, including 15 deaths, in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas.
